Chelsea FC's Mamadou Sarr Impresses on Debut | Rosenior on Sarr, Palmer & Squad Management (2026)

Liam Rosenior, the manager of Chelsea FC, shared his thoughts on Mamadou Sarr's debut performance and Cole Palmer's absence from the squad. 'Mamadou was everything that I expected,' Rosenior stated, expressing his satisfaction with the player's performance. 'I know Mamadou so well,' he added, highlighting their close relationship and understanding of each other's playing styles. 'I think the acclimatisation, adaptation process for him will be faster because he understands the way I want to play, and he already showed that today,' Rosenior explained, emphasizing the player's quick adjustment to the team's tactics. However, Rosenior was quick to point out that he doesn't want to single out individual players, praising the entire team's performance. 'I just felt the whole team, from [Alejandro] Garnacho's energy and running Liam Delap, Estevao, midfield players, the back unit, Rob Sanchez,' he said, 'I just felt it was a really, really strong team performance and that's what makes me so happy this evening.'

Mamadou Sarr's clean sheet on his full debut was a notable achievement, and Rosenior attributed this to the team's collective effort. 'Clean sheet on full debut: Mamadou Sarr,' he noted, 'Getty Images.'

Cole Palmer, who has been in impressive form with four goals in his last two appearances, was notably absent from the squad. Rosenior explained, 'Managing — managing him,' suggesting that he was carefully handling Palmer's workload. 'Brilliant to see Reece [James] back on the pitch. Brilliant for him to get those 60 minutes,' Rosenior said, 'I was planning on giving Enzo [Fernandez] 45 minutes with Moi [Caicedo]. I'm trying to manage their minutes. In the end, I felt it was right for Moi to stay on for 60.'

Despite Palmer's absence, Rosenior expressed delight that all players came through the game unscathed, and now they have a full week to prepare for their upcoming match against Burnley. 'I'm delighted they've all come through unscathed and now, for the first time in a long time, they've got a full week to prepare for Burnley,' he concluded, leaving room for further discussion and analysis of the team's strategy and player management.
