Breaking News: Firearms Charges in Gus Lamont Case - What You Need to Know (2026)

A 75-year-old man has been charged with firearms offenses, but police say the arrest is unrelated to the disappearance of four-year-old Gus Lamont. The man was taken into custody following a search of a property in South Australia's northeast, where Gus went missing last year. The police have returned to Oak Park Station near Yunta, searching for evidence in the boy's disappearance. Gus was reported missing on September 27, and the police have been exploring three investigation options: that the boy walked off from Oak Park Station, that he was abducted, or that someone known to him was involved in his disappearance and suspected death. The police have found no evidence to suggest he wandered off or was abducted. The 75-year-old is expected to face court in Peterborough in May. The police have also seized a vehicle, a motorcycle, and electronic devices during a search at Oak Park Station on January 14 and 15. The family of Gus, including his grandparents, has fully cooperated with the investigation, but a person who lived at the property is now considered a suspect. The police have not ruled out any investigation options and continue to search for evidence to solve the case.
